Lac Bleu, Cervinia, Aosta Valley, Italy. The deepest blue and the white of the Matterhorn.

The Blue Lake (or "Lac Bleu") is a small mountain lake with crystal-clear water in shades of deep blue and green. It overlooks the peaks of the "Great Wall"—a dramatic mountain range—and, most notably, the Matterhorn. The latter, one of the most beautiful mountains in the world and a national symbol of Switzerland, rises right on the border between Italy (Cervinia) and Switzerland (Zermatt). The mountain’s reflection in the lake’s waters is truly breathtaking—a sight that must be experienced in person. Situated at an altitude of nearly 2,000 meters above sea level, the lake is easily accessible by car or on foot (it lies just 1 km from Cervinia). The air remains cool even in summer, and afternoon thunderstorms are a common occurrence. It is best visited on a sunny day to fully appreciate its vibrant colors and the reflections of the Matterhorn and surrounding peaks in its stunning waters, which are home to mountain trout. The lake freezes over with the first cold spells in October and thaws again between late May and early June. Lac Bleu
