Hotel Sant'Angelo

The Sant'Angelo hotel, member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, is located in the heart of the ancient Matera, in south of Italy. Matera is not easy to reach but worth to be seen and experienced. With a car it is not possible to enter the old city, the world heritage "Sassi di Matera". So, as the hotel organize everything, we had to leave the car in a garage in the new town and reached the hotel with a dedicated shuttle. Matera is simply wonderful, you can breathe the old city. You can feel those emotions. You can see and touch history. And the Sant'Angelo hotel is located exactly in the heart of the city. We have chosen the best suite available, since every room is into a different "sasso". The tower (oh yes our room was an ancient medieval tower), is just in front of the main attractions of the old city, everything is reachable with a walk. And probably one of the best hotel rooms we have ever been into. Two floors, at the ground floor a big living room, with tv, sofas, etc, a big walk-in closet and a wonderful bathroom with a horizontal shower. Obviously also a couple of standard showers are available in the dedicated Spa zone. But the horizontal shower is something you have to try for a sensory experience. At first floor the bedroom, with a 180-degree glass window and view of the old city behind the medieval arches and the nearby Murge. The outside terrace is something that have changed my perspective of relaxation and holidays forever, simply astonishing. Sadly it is not easy to show the beauty of this suite with just 5 photos, but overall this is one of my favourite destinations.
